Ayeka is prim, proper, and demure, the perfect model of a Jurai crown Princess. Except when Ryoko's around. Ayeka's attraction to Tenchi stems from her admiration of his quiet inner strength, and his eligibility: the young man has Jurai Royal blood, after all. Ayeka was once engaged to her half brother, Yosho, Tenchi's grandfather. This ironically makes Ayeka, Tenchi's great aunt. Ayeka's happy on Earth away from her Royal duties and would be suitor which are a constant burden. Someday she plans to marry Tenchi and live in Royal splendor on Jurai...if only that space pirate would just go away. Ayeka's father, Azusa is the King of Jurai. Her mother, the Queen of Jurai, is Misaki.

OVA

In the OVA, Ayeka meets Tenchi while searching for Yosho. After sleeping on her ship, Ryu-oh for 700 years, she is awakened by her guardians Azaka and Kamidake when they detect the Space Pirate Ryoko on Earth. They make it there just in time to see Ryoko's warrant for arrest expire. Ayeka's ship is destroyed by Ryoko stranding her and her little sister Sasami on Earth.

TV

In the TV series, Ayeka meets Tenchi while answering a distress call from Mihoshi after her ship crash lands on Earth. Again, Ayeka's ship is destroyed by Ryoko.

Origins

Ayeka's name is taken from an old Japanese word "Aekanaru," which means "delicate" or "frail." The Tear of the Imperial Family ("Ouke no Namida") is a special Jurai flower used for somber occasions. When an imperial family member dies, these flowers are planted around that members tree, which becomes a gravesite memorial.

Ayeka's personal tree is Ryu-oh, a second generation offspring of Tsunami. The branches of Ryu-oh protect Tenchi when he was seriously injured by Kagato's attack [OVA eps. 6]. Ayeka later replanted Ryu-oh with Washu's help.
