Kagato appeared in both the OVA's and the Universe continuity. In the OVA's Kagato was able to control Ryoko and had her attack planet Jurai which ultimatley got her imprisoned in the cave on Earth. Kagato eventually found her on Earth and had her fight Yosho once again so he could obtain the Master Key (aka Tenchi-ken). After Kagato learned that he could not actually hold the Master Key (he got a nice electro shock from it) he took Ryoko back to the Soja where Tenchi and company went to save her. In the ensuing fight with Kagato, Tenchi was able to tap into the Light Hawk Wings to defeat him. Washu was also freed from Kagato's prison by Mihoshi.
