  • US Title: Tokyo or Bust!
  • Japanese Title: Hitchhiking: Okayama -> Tokyo
  • Credits: Jody's Tenchi Page
The family is watching a news report on a comet that will be approaching the planet. Ayeka demands to know why they are watching television instead of being concerned about Tenchi's "impure alliance" with "that Sakuya woman." They had to put it off because of Yugi's attack. Ayeka says that they'll ask Tenchi directly about his relationship with Sakuya. Kiyone says that she should use the dimensional tunnel, but Washu said that it's broken and won't be working until that evening.

Ayeka then says that she'll get Nobuyuki to buy her a bullet train ticket. Washu says that Nobuyuki is gone and shows her a letter he wrote stating "I'm leaving on a trip. Please don't look for me, Nobuyuki." Ayeka then demands that Washu make her a flying mecha in three seconds. Washu refuses stating that she's not in the mood and would rather spend time researching the crystals powers before they face Yugi again.

Kiyone and Mihoshi have to start their patrol and have to leave. Ayeka can't believe that they'd abandon her. Ayeka gives up and tells Ryoko that she will have to work with her. Ryoko refuses saying that she has faith in Tenchi and they should leave him alone. Ayeka can't believe it. Her last chance is Ryo-oki, but she's sick and can't fly anyone to Tokyo. Ayeka then hears a television report of a traveler who had to hitchhike back to his home town. He thanked the people who were kind to him. Ayeka gets an idea. She grabs Sasami and they will hitchhike to Tokyo.

Yugi is watching from above. She says that she'll get Ayeka to Tokyo. Tsuruga appears and wonders what Yugi has in mind. She says that if Ayeka makes it to Tokyo she can see Tenchi and Sakuya enjoying themselves and that will break the family apart. Tsuruga tells Yugi that she still hasn't fully recovered from the previous battle and that she'll do it for her. She says that the person they need will be there soon (the comet) and that it'll be fun.

Ayeka holds up her thumb. Sasami thinks it's embarrassing. A garbage truck passes them.

Second try, a SUV shows up and two college boys get out and tell Ayeka to come along for some fun. She blasts them away with a force field.

Third try, a police car. They apologize.

Fourth try, a tour bus with old men. One of them thinks that Ayeka is cute.

Fifth try, a school bus with children. They tell her to put more effort into it. Sasami tells her it's hopeless.

Ayeka grabs the sign that says "Tokyo." A motorcyclist stops and asks them if they need a lift. She takes off her helmet and unzips her suit. Ayeka and Sasami both stare. She asks if they need a lift. Ayeka, speaking in English, says that they do, but have no money. The cyclist says that it's okay. They take off.Tsuruga is watching from above and wonder where the other one is. She thinks nothing of it anymore.

A motorcycle race is taking place. The mystery cycle with Ayeka and Sasami is passing everyone with ease. Sasami is getting sick while Ayeka is enjoying it.At school, Tenchi is drawing some of the scenery. Sakuya surprises him and wants to see his drawing. She gets too close to Tenchi and he blushes. She realizes it and they both start to laugh.

The mystery cycle is going faster than the bullet train.

Back at the house, Ryoko is hungry (as usual). Washu is cooking herself some dinner and tells Ryoko that she doesn't feel like cooking for anyone else and that if she's looking for Sasami, she and Ayeka left for Tokyo. Ryoko says that it's been awhile, but guesses that she can cook something.

At a rest stop, the girls are enjoying some tea. Ayeka apologizes for impose on the driver for some tea. She says that her name is Masayo Manuketa. She asks why Ayeka is going to Tokyo. She beings to tell her the story of her and Tenchi. Sasami can't believe how much Ayeka is exaggerating. However, Masayo can relate. She's looking for her true love named Isao. Ayeka understands how Masayo feels. Sasami can't believe it. They are kindred spirits.

Several other bikers show up and say that they've witnessed Isao. No one has truly seen him, but he's the fastest racer in the world. Masayo hears this and decides to look for him. Tsuruga reminds Masayo of her mission to bring Ayeka and Sasami to Tokyo.

Ayeka and Sasami wonder what Masayo is doing. She tells them that they are going to Tokyo. Ayeka and Sasami tell Masayo that they can see Tenchi any time they want and that she should go after Isao. The chase is on.

They rapidly approach Isao who's not a cyclist but a runner. He's totally concentrating on running and can't hear anyone. Their only choice is to beat him. Ayeka realizes that they can't gain on him because their weight is effecting the bike's speed. They decide that they are going to jump out. They come to a broken bridge. While in the air, Ayeka and Sasami jump out. Masayo keeps calling Isao's name until he realizes who it is. The grab hands and become spirits. Ayeka and Sasami are still falling. Ryo-oki turns into her mecha mode and saves the two. Masayo and Isao will now return to the comet.

Tsuruga can't believe it. She thought that comet was a "twin" comet, not a "lovers" comet. She also wonders why the guy was running.

Ayeka and Sasami have arrived...in Sendai. The chase caused them to overshoot Tokyo. Ayeka says that she'll still hitchhike to Tokyo.

Late at night, Tenchi is getting ready for bed. He hears is doorbell ring and finds Sasami and Ayeka exhausted. They crawl into his bed and use the dimensional tunnel to return to the house.

Ryoko is eating some instant ramen. She hears a "thud" and sees Ayeka and Sasami on the floor, sleeping. She goes downstairs and places blankets on them. She says that she'll make Ayeka tell her about it in the morning.

We get one last look at the comet and the episode ends.
